Nordlys : a family story at the service of design

Nordlys : une histoire de famille au service du design

Founded in 2021, Nordlys imagines Scandinavian furniture that is accessible, modular and adapted to new lifestyles. Behind the brand, a family history deeply linked to wood and a European ambition.

A family story at the service of design

Nordlys sees the light of day in 2021, in the midst of the health crisis, at a time when the French are rediscovering the pleasure of taking care of their interiors. Anne-Sophie Musso founded the brand alongside her brother and Jean-Charles, both from a family of cabinetmakers and antique dealers. This family transmission weighs in every decision: the taste for wood, the demand for the right gesture, the search for noble materials.

Anne-Sophie's brother, trained in an engineering school specializing in woodworking, completes this base with experience acquired in Asia, through contact with high-end custom furniture. He built a network of suppliers, particularly in Shanghai, which would become a valuable asset for the young company.

The initial idea remains simple: to offer a range of wooden furniture, with natural materials and neutral tones, inspired by Scandinavian aesthetics. This intuition, born from the particular context of confinement and the rise of e-commerce for the home, quickly transformed into a real brand project, led by a team that knows the world of wood and furniture intimately.

Furniture designed for city life

At Nordlys, design is not limited to appearance. Each piece of furniture must respond to a very real constraint: the lack of space in urban housing. The brand is developing collections designed for residents of medium and large cities, in France and in the rest of Europe.

Modularity becomes an area of work in its own right. An ottoman can open to reveal storage space, before flipping over and transforming into a side table. A coffee table can hide poufs that slide underneath. A round dining table, with a hollow central leg, allows you to store crockery. Each room thus combines several uses, far from furniture fixed in a single function.

This approach takes on its full meaning as household life evolves: arrival of a child, change of accommodation, new habits. The furniture Nordlys accompanies these transformations rather than undergoing them. Associated with neutral tones, white, beige, or more intense like green and terracotta, this bias gives the brand a recognizable identity, between Scandinavian sobriety and practical intelligence.

Reasoned production, focused on tomorrow

Behind each collection, Nordlys applies a deliberately reasoned production method. The brand has been working for several years with the same family workshops, of modest size, rather than with large standardized factories. This choice allows regular quality monitoring and limits the risk of overproduction.

Before launching a new large-scale range, Nordlys often tests small volumes, sometimes only forty to fifty pieces, to validate market interest. This prudence avoids wasted resources and overconsumption linked to the importation of unsold products. The wood comes from sustainably managed and FSC-certified forests, while the fabrics meet the Oeko-Tex standard.

The brand is now continuing its development on a European scale, with the arrival of new distributors and the expansion of its catalog: convertible sofas, beds with storage box, decorative range enriched with collaborations. A broader outdoor offering is also being studied for summer 2027. Nordlys also aims to strengthen its activity with professionals, hotels, student residences and event agencies, for whom it designs solutions on larger volumes.

Nordlys thus embodies a certain idea of contemporary furniture: accessible without renouncing standards, Scandinavian in its aesthetic, but resolutely focused on today's uses. A young brand, driven by a strong family heritage and a clear vision of what a constantly evolving European house should be.
